Plan B: New entry requirements for Anfield

Plan B: New entry requirements for Anfield

What do I need to do?

Responding to the UK government’s Plan B announcement, Anfield has new entry requirements for accessing the stadium on matchdays from the Newcastle United fixture on Thursday 16 December 2021.

All fans must bring their COVID documentation to the match as they may be subject to a COVID spot check by the Club’s stewarding team. You risk being denied entry to the match if you are unable to show the legally required evidence if asked.

If you have purchased a ticket for a game at Anfield you may also have received an email from the Club asking you to complete a health declaration form. You must submit the form at least four hours before kick-off. This is in line with Premier League requirements.

Why are LFC putting these checks in place?
These checks have mandated to all Clubs and other types of venues by central Government and as such we are required to undertake them.

Accepted forms of certification/evidence

The new government policy changes now require all fans across the league with matchday tickets to a home or away fixture to have one of the following for entry:
  1. NHS Covid Pass – record of double vaccination (and booster if you have had it)
  2. Confirmation of a negative PCR or NHS lateral flow test OR COVID recovery certificate
  3. EU digital COVID certificate
  4. COVID pass letter for those who are double vaccinated
  5. Negative COVID test email or text message

Examples of the main accepted types of certification/evidence:

1. Covid Pass via the NHS app
Please ensure that the date, time and expiry date are valid.

2. COVID Pass via Apple Wallet or Google Pay

3. A PDF version of the NHS COVID Pass

4. Negative COVID Test Result E-mail from NHS Test & Trace
This should include (see guidance here):
  1. The name of the person who took the test
  2. Their age or date of birth
  3. The date the test sample was collected or received by the test provider
  4. Confirmation that the test was either a polymerase chain reaction test or a lateral flow test
  5. Confirmation that the result of the test was negative
  6. The test must be within the last 48 hours

5. Negative COVID Test Result Text Message from NHS Test & Trace
A valid message should include (see guidance here):
  1. The name of the person who took the test
  2. Their age or date of birth

An EU Digital COVID Certificate is proof that a person has either:
  1. Been vaccinated against COVID-19
  2. Received a Negative PCR/LFT test result or
  3. Recovered from COVID 19

I don’t have a smartphone and use a member’s card – can I provide paper certification?
Yes, you must provide a downloaded (and printed if necessary) copy of your COVID pass. The paper vaccination card is not sufficient.

Away fans and fans travelling from outside England

I’m from Scotland / Wales / Northern Ireland – do I need an NHS England covid pass?
No, you need to have the COVID pass supplied by your local Government, and you should ensure that all your documents are in date and ready to be checked.

I am an away fan – do I have to provide the same level of documentation as the home fans?
Yes, all supporters attending will be subject to COVID spot checks and may be required to show proof of double vaccination and /or a negative PCR or Lateral Flow Test.

Is it the same for when I watch the Reds at an away game?
We will provide up-to-date details for fans travelling to away games but all matches in PL, UEFA Home ties and domestic cups are subject to same legislation.

Exemptions and exceptions

Can I refuse a Covid spot check?
No, we ask that you cooperate fully with our stewarding team who are conducting the checks.

I am under 18. Do I still need to provide evidence of vaccination and testing?
Children under the age of 18 are exempt from checks and do not need to provide documentation.

I am exempt from vaccination and testing – what do I need to bring to the match?
Fans who are also exempt from providing COVID vaccination and testing may still be asked to provide an NHS Covid Pass or exemption certificate. Please follow the below links for the latest government guidance:
  1. For fans in England click here
  2. For fans in Wales click here
  3. For fans in Scotland click here
  4. For fans in Northern Ireland click here
Those exempt from vaccination only should take a PCR or lateral flow test within 48 hours of kick off.

I am exempt from the vaccine; can I still attend games?
Yes, providing you have proof of a negative Lateral Flow Test or PCR test taken within 48 hours of kick off.

I am exempt from wearing a mask; can I still attend games?
Yes. If you are approached by a member of our stewarding team, just advise them of your exemption status - you do not need to provide any documentary proof.

I don’t believe we should have to show this documentation – what will happen if I don’t bring it with me?
Failure to provide the relevant documentation could result in you being refused entry to the match.

What are the sanctions for fans who don’t provide Covid Certification?
Supporters who do not provide certification or a negative COVID Test may be refused entry to the stadium and could be subject to further sanctions for future games per the Supporters Code of Conduct.

Getting to Anfield, and what to do when at the ground

Do I have to wear a face covering?
For any inside spaces at Anfield it is now mandatory to wear a face covering but not inside the bowl, when eating or drinking, or where exempt.  Wear a mask whenever you’re on the move.

What other Covid measures are in place?
Fans are also reminded to wash or sanitise hands regularly and maintain distance from fellow supporters where possible. Additional sanitiser is available around the stadium. Also, any fans with symptoms should follow the latest government guidelines on isolating and testing and should not attend the match.

What time should supporters arrive?
Supporters are encouraged to arrive at least 90 minutes before kick-off to avoid queues and allow for checks and search procedures. Queues may be likely the closer to kick-off you arrive. Turnstiles for GA will open two hours prior to kick-off and three hours before for hospitality ticket holders.

There have already been huge queues – won’t this make them worst?
No, we do don’t anticipate the access process to be affected particularly if everyone who can completes the COVID Check Form before they attend the match.
